About the Job

Job Information

The Northwest Territories has an integrated health and social services system that provides patient focused care in a local health centre or where necessary, in the nearest community .

There are eight Health and Social Services Regions that manage and deliver community and facility-based services for health care for 44,000 residents throughout the Northwest Territories.

There are 28 community health centres in the Northwest Territories, employing between one and seven community health nurses each. Work settings vary from remote community health centres to public health units and secondary and tertiary hospitals.

Community Health Nurses work in an expanded nursing role in the remote health centres, as the primary care providers in most Northwest Territories communities. In addition to community, home care and public health services, these nurses provide treatment and emergency care services, X-ray, Medevac services and crisis management. Services may be provided within the Health Centre, community halls, schools or in a patients/residents home (i.e. elderly population) and are intended to promote a healthy way of life, and decrease the incidence of death and disease. Services may be provided on an individual basis or as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Working in the North will provide you with an opportunity to challenge all of your skill sets.

Within the Northwest Territories nurses must be eligible for registration with the Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU). For more information on Nursing Licensing in the NWT please visit: www.rnantnu.ca.

To be successful in this position, one would typically possess a degree in nursing and a minimum of 2 years recent and relevant nursing experience.
