Phlebotomists are needed on a casual basis for the CALIPER study. As a Phlebotomist you will be available to participate in CALIPER clinics a few days per month and will perform and be responsible for a variety of duties, both non-technical and semi-technical, relating to and including the procurement of in-patient and out-patient laboratory specimens from neonates, children, youths and adults in a family centered care environment and acts in accordance with the mission, vision, values and goals of the department and those of the Hospital. Here’s What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Collecting, preparing and labeling of specimens.
  • Performing data entry on Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Participation in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities and compliance to departmental procedures.
  • Maintaining specimen collection equipment and following inventory control system.
  • Ensuring and following health and safety procedures as per the Hospital guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Conducting orientation and training of other Phlebotomy staff as required.
  • Participating in special projects as assigned.
  • Work with children and families in order to obtain blood donations for the purpose of clinical research.
  • Report to supervising coordinator on duty.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • MLA/T certification from the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT) or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in venipuncture and capillary blood work.
  • Experience with children and/or a pediatric setting is required.
  • Adapt to safe work practices and have working knowledge of the quality systems, Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA), and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
  • Data entry skills and proficiency in the use of Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Excellent customer service, takes initiative, self-directed, well organized and flexible.

Employment Type

  • Part Time (No Guaranteed Hours)
  • Temporary (12 month contract) 

* This will be a casual position on an as-needed basis. Locations will vary throughout the GTA region.
