Technical Sales Specialist – Plasticon Canada

Plasticon Canada (Member of the Plasticon Composites Group) is a leading manufacturer of high-quality fiberglass tanks, piping systems and process equipment for virtually every industry and market. We also fabricate dual laminate tanks and apparatus for corrosive applications and chemical storage

Responsibilities and Function

The Technical Sales Specialist has the overall responsibility for increasing sales for Plasticon Canada through providing specialist technical leadership. The applicant will be required to increase sales of GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastics) piping solutions and FRP (Fibre-Reinforced Plastics) through application of industry technical know-how, engaging and managing technical relationships with clients, particularly structural and civil engineers.

  • Promote sales to existing clients. Engage clients at both senior commercial and technical level with equal ease.

  • Identify and solicit potential clients both local and international to increase market share in GRP and FRP solutions offered by Plasticon Canada

  • The candidate will be able to assess clients' needs and detail appropriate solutions within technical scope and financial budgets, providing cost and time estimates

  • Correctly advise specifying engineers in the design and specification of Plasticon Canada products with two specific areas of focus

    • GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) Piping solutions. Knowledge of Thermoset Plastics, GRP Filament continuous and discontinuous winding processes, Vinyl Esther, Isophthalic, and Orthophthalic resins. Understanding of Centrifugal Cast Winding, as well as pultrusion and extrusion processes is required.

    • FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) tanking and industrial solutions. Extensive knowledge of use of FRP for tanks, process equipment, dual laminates and Fluoropolymer liners.

  • Advise specifying engineers in the correct standards for Plasticon Canada’s products according to establish and accepted standards such as AWWA (, EU, FRP and GRE standards.

  • Produce quality client presentations, internal reports and proposals for both commercial and technical audiences, addressing intrinsic product value, as well as value against competition

  • Extensive experience in EPCM with GRP and FRP project applications.

  • Prepare and administer sales contracts, tender specification and timeous tender response, either through client interaction or from online systems

  • Provide post-sales services, including the troubleshooting of technical problems related to GRP and FRP product manufactured and supplied by Plasticon Canada, and where necessary, propose appropriate remedial action

  • Will be required to train customers' staff in the operation and maintenance of product supplied by Plasticon Canada

  • May supervise the activities of other technical staff and sales specialists, and will be required to train internal staff

  • Develop and present strategies for knowledge transfer and growth of technical sales team. Successfully negotiate and obtain client commitment to support Plasticon Canada

  • Ensure achievement of targets set by management of Plasticon Canada

  • Display strong leadership qualities and provide thought leadership to the executive team on strategies of expanding and improving technical offers to the market

  • Represent Plasticon Canada at industry events and conferences


Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in commerce or engineering

  • Several years of FRP and GRP technical sales experience

  • In-depth knowledge of FRP, GRP and Composites products is essential. This is a highly technical industry, so product knowledge is non-negotiable

  • International sales experience is essential

  • Experience in Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) is essential

  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, communication, presentation, leadership and decision-making skills

  • Results oriented and proven ability for attention to detail and deadlines

  • Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external customers

  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills

  • Must be receptive to flexible work hours and travel expectations

  • Team Player and ability to provide mentoring and assistance to team members

  • Motivated self-starter who can work with minimal direction and supervision


Wages and Benefits

  • The annual wage will be CAD 70 000

  • Performance Incentive: based on results at discretion of management

  • 4 weeks paid holiday in addition to the legal statutory holidays in Quebec

  • Full family Group insurance (life, medical, dental, etc paid at 50% by Plasticon

  • Pension Plan contribution (3% of salary by Plasticon)
