Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario and our goal is to create a transportation network that enhances the prosperity, sustainability and quality of life for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. We lead planning in the region with a Regional Transportation Plan that guides the work and investments of the organization. This includes building light transit, bus rapid transit and Regional Express Rail, as well as operating GO Transit, UP Express and PRESTO.

Our Rail Corridors Track Infrastructure Office is seeking a Track Protection Officer to plan and monitor all GO/UP Express owned railway corridor flagging and track protection requests with flagging users, providers, and railways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform spot field audits of flagging providers. 
  • Administer track protection for programmed maintenance and plant renewal programs.
  • Establish track protection priorities and requirements within regulatory guidelines for program maintenance and plant renewal implementation.
  • Establish and execute track protection work blocks for Rail Corridors work programs; including liaising with internal and external stakeholders to arrange for planned track work blocks.
  • Develop and practice appropriate internal and external management control systems.
  • Liaise with regulatory entities to ensure that Metrolinx is fully compliant with prevailing safety regulatory policy.
  • Monitor contractors and third party stakeholders’ delivery supports rail operations customer service, and revenue generation objectives.
  • Provide assistance to System Safety in updating current Track Protection Procedures. 
  • Validate the proper allocation of flagging resources in the field and address track protection issues and requests.
  • Monitor third party contract provision for compliance with established regulations, policies, and guidelines, in addition to the performance of the host railway track protection providers for adherence to Operating Agreement requirements.
  • Provide input to the GO Transit/UP Express budget process for railway corridor asset management.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and day-to-day direction.

Location      335 Judson Street, Etobicoke, ON.

  • Completion of diploma or trade certification with apprenticeship in a related field – or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in the transportation industry.
