Under general direction of the Vice-Dean Faculty Affairs and Equity and using a broad range of understanding of the overall goals and objectives of UTSC, the Manager is UTSC’s primary resource for faculty and staff of academic departments on all matters related to academic HR. The incumbent is responsible for providing accurate and timely advice and service related to all academic human resource policies and protocols. They are responsible for ensuring the administration of academic HR is carried out accurately and consistently across all UTSC academic departments by providing ongoing relevant UTSC wide advice and managing the delivery of training and mentorship on the interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures as they pertain to academic recruitment, appointments, reviews, promotions, salary administration, retirements, leaves, faculty workload and teaching evaluation in order to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

The incumbent liaises with Labour Relations ensuring UTSC appropriately administrators each of the CUPE 3902 Units 1, 3 and 5 collective agreements. They are expected to maintain comprehensive knowledge of the collective agreements to ensure the Vice-Dean, Chairs and Academic Directors, and other staff contacts are provided with accurate information and sound advice regarding the consistent management of all aspects of the collective agreements for Teaching Assistants, Sessional Lecturers and Postdoctoral Fellows.

The Manager will assume responsibility for projects and undertake research on a wide variety of issues and topics related to the responsibilities of this position, which will continuously evolve. They must be flexible and willing to respond without delay to the given priorities of the day and be willing to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a dynamic environment.  

The Manager is required to use initiative, strong judgement and analytical skills for expert decision making and handling inquiries independently or referring them appropriately. As a representative of the Office of the Dean and Vice-Dean, the incumbent is required to exercise a high degree of sensitivity, responsiveness, and confidentiality.


:(Minimum Qualifications)
EDUCATION: University degree. A CHRP designation or course work in the Human Resources field leading to the completion of the CHRP designation is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Five years of related experience, knowledge of University of Toronto structure; excellent knowledge of the University’s academic policies and practices as they pertain to full-time and part-time academic searches, appointments, tenure, promotions, leaves and salary administration; sound knowledge of collective agreement interpretation and administration; experience supervising staff in a unionized environment.

SKILLS: Computer literate with a strong facility with various software programs including Word, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, and database management; excellent decision making and presentation skills.

OTHER: Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), organizational and time management skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively and professionally with academic administrators and others in a manner that facilitates cooperation; ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion and tact; excellent attention to detail; ability to work under pressure while dealing with a variety of tasks ensuring strict deadlines are met; ability to frequently adjust priorities; superior organizational skills in planning and project management; flexibility and problem solving orientation; ability to maintain confidentiality; well-developed data gathering and data analysis skills; considerable interpersonal sensitivity and diplomacy required.
